The White House has announced that President Biden will visit several swing states in the coming week, give a national TV interview and hold a press conference.
AP reported the news, which White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre broke during a briefing with reporters:
Jean-Pierre said Biden, who has not taken questions from reporters since Thursday night’s debate, would meet with Democratic governors and top congressional leaders on Wednesday. And Biden also agreed to appear for an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, which will air Friday. He has trips scheduled to Wisconsin on Friday and Philadelphia on Monday. And he will hold a news conference during the NATO summit in Washington next week.
Donald Trump currently has no events scheduled for the coming week.
One advantage they haven’t taken advantage of is that Donald Trump barely campaigns one day a week. If the Biden campaign wanted to, they could put the president in front of the cameras every day and allay any post-debate ageist concerns.
The Biden campaign should be putting forward their candidate. Biden is a better campaigner than Trump, and voters should be reassured that the president is also a better campaigner than Trump.
Biden has an opportunity to assuage post-debate concerns. He just has to seize it.
