Donald Trump seems to think abortion won’t hurt in the general election, as his running mate finalists are Tim Scott, Marco Rubio, JD Vance and Doug Burgum.
Don’t miss Sarah Jones’ essay on Kristi Noem, entitled Predatory Is the Point of the Day.
Bloomberg reported:
The spectacle comes as Trump narrows his sights on a handful of potential running mates: Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, according to people familiar with the deliberations. recently like this. week.
Trump is saddled with legal problems. His running mate could be a crucial surrogate on the campaign trail, helping him broaden his appeal to independent, women and minority voters while also tapping into wealthy donors as he trails President Joe Biden by nearly $100 million.
If Trump chooses any of these men, none of them will help him attract independent, women, or minority voters. Tim Scott has publicly fought the most for the job, but it would be in character for Trump to stay in his comfort zone and choose a white man.
All of Trump’s potential running mate choices are extremely anti-reproductive freedom. Three of the four are old faces on the national political scene, as Burgum is the only unknown, but that’s what Trump wants. The ex-president wants a running mate who has no chance of ever getting more publicity than or surpassing him.
Choosing an anti-abortion man as his running mate would be an epic strategic blunder for Trump, as the issue of reproductive rights is poised to play a major role in the campaign.
Instead of putting a new face into the race, Trump is running with a stale sycophant, ensuring that the gender gap burns him in the November polls.
