If you’ve somehow managed to escape the deluge of conservative hysteria and outrage over President Biden’s Easter Egg rules, congratulations, you’ve made some truly exceptional life choices.
For the rest of us, you couldn’t miss the sound. Conservative outlets like Fox News and the Daily Caller spent the weekend in hysterics over a flyer citing 45-year-old rules about an Easter egg decorating contest. You see, the rules prohibit “questionable content, religious symbols, overtly religious themes, or partisan political statements.”
Former President Donald Trump shared the Fox News article about Truth Social, even though the rule also existed during his administration. But the truth doesn’t belong here, in the conservative echo chamber of disinformation and performative outrage.
Donald Trump Jr. joined the show, writing on Twitter: “Biden bans religious symbols from Easter celebrations at the White House, while flying the trans flag and declaring Easter Sunday ‘Trans Visibility Day.’ This is the new religion of the left. They want people to worship the trans flag instead of God. They must be stopped.”

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) claimed via a screenshot of the Fox News article on Twitter that President Biden is “banning Christian symbols from the White House Easter egg roll. Shameful.”
Newt Gingrich wouldn’t let this moment pass without his signature insincere outrage:
The conclusion of all this was that a number of people spent the Easter weekend lying down:

Easter outrage 2024
And certainly, liberals got very upset during the Trump administration, sometimes even over things that didn’t actually happen. But Democratic leaders and former presidents were not in charge of “business as usual.” The outrage over policy “disagreements,” such as the deliberate separation of families at the border, was genuine and based on principles that the U.S. is supposed to uphold. These types of Trump policies created a fear that then generalized, given the ongoing horrors of those four years.
The American Egg Board, which supports the White House Egg Roll, was forced to say in a statement obtained by NBC News: “The American Egg Board has been a supporter of the White House Easter Egg Roll and the guidance language referenced for more than 45 years. referenced in recent news reports has consistently applied to the board, across all administrations, since its inception.”
The White House even had to intervene when the histrionics reached intolerable levels.
*FYI about all the misleading swirls about the White House and Easter: The standard non-discrimination language of the American Egg Board flyer asking for artwork has been used by all Democrats and Republican administrators for the past 45 years – for all WH Easter Egg Roles – including previous administrations.

Fox News added an undated update to the end of the article, effectively calling the entire article into question as it points out that this rule has been in place for a long time. The original article was published on March 29 and there is no notice accompanying the article that it has been clarified or updated. Was it updated immediately or several days after it was published?
The title remains and is misleading at best:
In between bouts of performative outrage over fictional changes to the Easter Egg rules, Republicans also spent their Easter weekend attacking President Biden for honoring Transgender Visibility Day, which always falls on March 31 but this year fell on Easter Sunday .
These attacks are coordinated, indicating that the MAGA outrage is “fake and performative”:
So why did they spend Easter weekend lying about President Biden? This is a question that will become increasingly applicable as the election heats up. So it is worth giving a clear answer.
The Conservatives spent Easter weekend lying about President Biden and trying to divide Americans because they can’t implement their policies, which is why they depend on us turning against each other in any way possible.
Usually, this desperation to avoid actual policy discussions leads them to conveniently side with a base ready to fall for racism by stoking fears of crime and “border” dog whistles. They top this off with attacks on transgender people, women and other vulnerable groups they can attack. Yes, this is the opposite of what they claim to stand for. That is, this is the opposite behavior you would expect from people who claim moral high ground because they wear a cross, sell Bibles, or wrap themselves in the flag.
You recognize them by what they do, not by what they say. As Matthew 7:15-20 warns, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. You will know them by their fruits.”
If you’re wondering what kind of policy could be so bad that conservatives would spend Easter weekend lying about stupid, easily debunked things like an Easter egg decorating contest, well… Anti-abortionists are actually planning to restrict IVF:
The anti-abortion movement’s short-term goal is to calm Republicans’ political panic and prevent any legislation they see as detrimental to their long-term efforts, such as the Alabama Republican Party bill passed earlier this month and that provides for civil and criminal prosecution. immunity for IVF providers for death or damage to embryos. In the long term, they want to regulate not only IVF, but also other reproductive technologies not yet in use, such as in vitro gametogenesis and artificial wombs.
Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, said he expects the panic will subside and lawmakers will eventually embrace restrictions on IVF, such as “you’re limited to the creation of three embryos, rather than a dozen or whatever.” . .â€
In other words, if Republicans can shift your attention from the loss of your medical freedom to their overthrow of Roe to the outrage over fictitious new rules on Easter egg decorations, it’s a win for them.
If they can cleverly hide their true intentions to restrict IVF and other reproductive technologies by drawing your attention to their outrage over the recognition of transgender people on a day that also happens to be Easter, then this is all a win for them .
The goal is to flood the zone with lies, accusations, false impeachment attempts, smearing of the president’s family name and culture wars. All of these things are meant to work on emotions. They are also effective because most people vote on emotions rather than policies. And that’s why it’s important to pull back from the turmoil and even let go of the outrage about the lies, the anger and the pain, and look at what’s actually going on.
When a political party cannot discuss its actual policies because its policies are harmful to the average person and small businesses, they will instead distract with culture wars and performative outrage.
This isn’t to say that conservatives aren’t genuinely outraged by the recognition of transgender people at Easter, but rather that elites know that pointing this out will enrage their base, which is already primed to focus on transgender people as *the problem*.
Every time you hear a new lie or a divisive issue about a culture war in an area designed to take away someone else’s rights, ask yourself what this politician might be hiding, what he might want your attention from to distract?
If you think conservatives won’t rush to vote based on a lie about Easter egg decorations, I’m sorry to tell you that’s absolutely false: they will. Or rather, they will vote based on the accumulation of years of culture war lies, all of which confirm pre-existing prejudices. They won’t look into their own pockets to question a party whose financial policies serve the elites first and last, with a deceptive short-term topping for workers, like Trump’s tax cuts, because they are ready to to avoid associating with the Republican version of Jesus (i.e., an annoying, hateful person who divides people) and the Republican version of the US, a country that closes its borders to all non-whites, is isolationist and defensive , and ultimately does not relinquish its superpower to close down and make way for President Putin.
The Easter weekend of lies was coordinated, it was performative, it was a show designed to distract you, the voters, from reality.
And that’s why we can’t have nice things anymore. Even Easter eggs have been politicized and attacked by conservatives.
